Oversized t-shirts for short guys: how to wear them without drowning

Short guys should choose oversized tees that are wide but short: a boxy body that ends at or just below the waistband, and sleeves that end above the elbow. Extra width reads as relaxed; extra length reads as too big.

Width, not length

An oversized fit on a taller model is usually a bigger size, longer in the body and sleeve. On a shorter frame that length ends at mid-thigh and the sleeves pass the elbow, which reads as borrowed rather than styled.

Look for tees described as boxy or cropped, where the extra room goes into the chest and shoulder and the body stays short.

Where it should land

Hem: at the waistband to the top of the hip. Sleeve: above the elbow. Shoulder: a dropped seam is fine, but then sleeve reach on the chart is an estimate; compare with a dropped-shoulder tee you own.

What to wear with it

Balance a wide top with a straight or tapered trouser that has little break, and keep the colours close. A wide top over wide trousers works only when both are the right length.

Questions

Can short guys wear oversized clothes?

Yes, if the extra room is in the width rather than the length: a boxy body that ends at the waistband and sleeves above the elbow.

How long should a t-shirt be on a short man?

It should end around the hip bone, covering the waistband without reaching the crotch. Compare the body length on the size chart with a tee that fits you.
